Of Geoff Keighley's trilogy of annual video game extravaganzas, Gamescom Opening Night Live tends to be the weakest. However, that's not to say it hasn't played host to some fantastic announcements and trailers over the years.
With a glimmer of hope in our collective eye and lots of potential titles that could show their face, we thought it would be fun to make some predictions ahead of the big day.
But before we get into all that, let's go over what we know will be there.

Games Confirmed for Gamescom ONL So Far

The following titles have already been confirmed as part of the showcase:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
- Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion
- Little Nightmares 3
- Lords of the Fallen 2
- Ninja Gaiden 4
- Resident Evil Requiem
- The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin
- Silent Hill F
We'll add more as and when they are announced prior to the show.
So, what does that leave us with? Well, the way we see it, there are lots of possibilities. There are plenty of games slated for 2025 that have yet to receive a date, for instance. Gamescom ONL is also an ideal venue to show off new trailers for games announced earlier in the year.
Add on top of that a bunch of games releasing shortly after Gamescom, and you're already looking at a fairly packed show. Let's go through it.
Character Reveals Are In

Certain games and genres lend themselves to featuring many playable characters, and it just so happens there are a handful on the horizon — some closer than others, but still.
We can imagine there being one or two character reveal trailers for games such as Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and perhaps even Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
The latter two games also don't have a release date yet, and while it would probably be too early to get a firm date for Tokon, the timing seems about right to hear when Cosmic Invasion is dropping.
September and October Reminders

The next couple of months are pretty busy with new game releases, and we'd wager some of the major players will rock up at Gamescom ONL to remind you they're launching soon.
A new gameplay trailer, pre-order details, revealing a new mode — that sort of thing. Anything that might get people amped up for games coming soon.
Titles in this category include:
- Hell Is Us
- Dying Light: The Beast
- Borderlands 4
- Jurassic World Evolution 3
- Arc Raiders
- Battlefield 6
There are plenty of other potential candidates. A big one we've left out is Ghost of Yotei, but if Sony hosts its own State of Play in September (as it has done for the last three years running), we expect it'll show up there, if anywhere.
It's a Date

Numerous developers and publishers have yet to reveal release dates for their games, but many of them are still earmarked for 2025. There's only a third of the year left, guys — it's time to draw your lines in the proverbial sand.
We've already mentioned Marvel Cosmic Invasion, but some others we're hoping to see dates for are Lumines Arise, Skate (early access), 2XKO, Mixtape, and Hades 2.
Speaking of Lumines, developer Enhance has previously announced a playable demo coming this summer, and there ain't much summer left; we could be looking at a "demo out now" situation.
It's an Update

Some other games have been announced or shown off previously, but maybe it's been a while. Gamescom ONL is a neat stopgap venue to reveal a little more about some upcoming titles that we know are in the works. For example:
- 007 First Light — Officially unveiled during Sony's June State of Play, now might be a good time to show some moment-to-moment gameplay.
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Pragmata — Both also seen in June showcases. With Capcom already showing Resident Evil Requiem, it's possible these two other 2026 games will get some air time too.
- Silent Hill: Townfall — Not seen since its announcement in 2022. Silent Hill F is confirmed for ONL, so perhaps it could segue into a new trailer for Townfall?
- John Carpenter's Toxic Commando — Announced in 2023, this has more or less been totally absent ever since. Is now the time to see it return?
- Crazy Taxi — SEGA's first retro revival project, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, is on the verge of release. It would make sense to us if the publisher starts promoting the next, and the one we're most curious to see is the brand new Crazy Taxi. We'll take Jet Set Radio too, though.
Just for Fun

Our thoughts and predictions so far have been just about games — where's the fun in that? Let's make some daft predictions about Gamescom ONL itself, because we can.
Geoff's Shoes Will Be Predominantly Black
Geoff Keighley always walks onstage in an expertly chosen t-shirt, jacket, and (presumably) sickeningly-expensive trainers. We always like to guess what colour they'll be before he walks out, and this time we reckon he'll play it fairly straight with some mostly black kicks.
Someone in the Audience Will React Too Strongly to Something
You don't see it quite so often anymore, but some fond memories from the E3 days would see certain audience members (very likely planted by publishers) whooping and hollering like they've witnessed a miracle. We predict at least one such occurrence; maybe some sarcastic enthusiasm for a bland sci-fi shooter, or something.
Geoff Will Brag About Visiting Studios and Playing Games Early
He loves doing this. He's got his grubby fingers in so many pies, it's disgusting.
There'll Probably Be a TV Adaptation or Whatever
Geoff likes bringing on celebrities and people from film and TV; last year, Tim Miller was trotted out to talk up Amazon's show Secret Level. We reckon there will be something along those lines, and it'll be hard to care about.
An Announcement That Puts Geoff on the Verge of Tears But Is Actually Not That Surprising or Impactful
Sometimes, Geoff will reach the biggest announcement in one of his shows, and before the reveal, he's amping it up big time. He's getting misty-eyed, he's getting choked up. This is big. This is a moment. Look at him, he's practically floating he's so excited. Oh! It's the third Star Wars Jedi game! Okay, cool! Alright, cool. Cool.
That's about all we've got for our Gamescom Opening Night Live predictions. What are you expecting to see during the showcase? Discuss in the comments section below.

Geoff Keighley will stare deeply into the camera for way too long.
I've made that prediction five years running I've never missed.
@Quintumply Yeah, Geoff getting choked up about Okami was borderline comedy.
My incredibly unlikely hope/prediction is that there will be at least one new game announcement that doesn't have my eyes staring up to the heavens XD
anyways F4 reveal for Marvel Tokon pls 🙏
These guesses are very general and save compared to the ones in the previous years. Come on, please add some more risky ones!
Bloodborne II is happening this year 🙏
@wildcat_kickz Its certainly very funny looking back on things but given how massive of an announcement that was, I can't really blame him to be honest XD
I still think this is where we'll get a release date trailer for Silksong, due to the game being playable at the event.
Still hoping for the Demon's Souls Remake to come to PC. I doubt it, but hey, a man can hope and dream.
Nintendo won't turn up.
Sony will have a video for Yotei but nothing else, leading to people demanding they show off games they aren't ready to start promoting because they are too far away.
Very Long shot:
Someone from Microsoft walks on the stage and throws an Xbox Series into a bin as they decide it's not worth being involved in hardware when they can't operate a first party business model. They then proceed to show off a few games that are day 1 multiplats
@AndyKazama With a brand new Funky Mode featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series 🔥
A lumines arise release date would be nice. I expect something from Sony since seem to always give Geoff something, maybe the full reveal of helldivers 2 halo crossover, tokon character reveals is a strong possibility. What's really exciting is if Sony doesn't show much at gamescom than we can probably expect a big event next month. With the rumored 2d god of war, more tokon announcements, the horizon co-op game, maybe officially announcing legends 2, insomniac next game rumored for next year (either wolverine or venom),and Saros gameplay, there's a ton that could show up. Not to mention Sony usually likes to announce upcoming plus games (maybe we'll finally get the classic god of war games on premium) at state of plays
The reveal of two games for Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection and the new 3D Sonic game.
Choking up on games nobody cares about makes it worse
Let’s pray your wrong because that sounds like an awful show
@Simulated-Soul An awful show would be in keeping with the tradition of all the shows which are the ego trip that is Geoff Keighley.
@Lowdefal why do we keep feeding this guy and pretending he won’t get fatter? Ignore him and maybe he’ll go away? I can’t watch this slop
Silksong is going to be there. Is this the show the clowns at Team Cherry are going to finally give what their clown community wants? (the date lol)
I don't expect anything from PS but to be honest I don't remember anything from Gamescom's past editions so maybe.
@Fizza The thing is I don't think it was a massive announcement. It's a well regarded cult classic, but it's not like it's considered one of the greatest of all time.
I know it's more then likely going to be at the game awards but my prediction is a title card drop for FF7 remake part 3
I think we all know we’re due for the inevitable Bloodborne remaster or sequel announcement. It just feels right this time 😂😂😂
I think the "one more thing" will be Silksong.
Shinobi art of vengeance is so good.and I'm excited for onimusha way of the sword.word up son
Mortal Kombat is almost certainly a given. I’m sort of expecting Silksong after Geoff made a joke about it at SGF, but that might be asking for too much. Gamescom is usually more about updates than new reveals, so I’m not expecting anything earth shattering. I would love an update for Hades and Rogue Prince of Persia, and I’d love to see Nintendo be involved and that’s why Metroid Prime 4 doesn’t have a release date, but, as a realist this time, I’m mostly expecting several Fortnite and Gamepass ads and updates on live service titles and potentially a bunch of Soulslikes, none of which interests me in the slightest.
I’m crossing my fingers for demos. Since we know Silent Hill F and RE9 will be there, would it be too much to ask to get some demos? As the first PS5 game to enter my wishlist, Pragmata for a holy trinity of demos? Please?
I'm surprised no one mentioned the 2.5D God of War Metroidvania. I'm thinking that will be announced at Gamescom next week, since it's supposedly going to come out this year. It won't need a long marketing cycle.
@wildcat_kickz Yeah, maybe Geoff hyped it up a bit too much, but at the same time, if you're a big Okami fan, that was indeed a massive announcement.
Like, I know Mirror's Edge is a niche series, but if they announced Mirror's Edge 3, for example, I would jump out of my seat from excitement lol.
All i want is gta4 on ps5
@Fizza Bloodborne featuring dante from dmc? Heck yeah!
@Questionable_Duck Yeah, we all definitely have those. I'd lose my mind if they announced remasters or remakes of the Ambrosia Software games (Escape Velocity, Harry the Handsome Executive, etc.).
@Cry_Zero don’t you mean vice city? 🤭
Deadly premonition 3!
Get excited for tons of Souls-like and Horror games in UE5, haha.
I'm not expecting any big surprises.
Bloodborne 2 and remaster incoming
Ff7 part3 will be showen, just a little clip, and tell us " more coming soon" just to keep us hanging on, no bloodborne 2, but bloodborne finially gets the ps5 update we want.
New MK for the collection
Pragmatic news
RE9 demo coming in the winter
Ghost of Yotei little more action scenes
Some boring indies nobody cares about
2 or 3 remakes/Remasters
God
Of
War
@twitchtvpat Bloodborne 3 seems more likely
I would like to see the captain America and black panther game get some gameplay shown and I think maybe saros could show up as they did say when it was announced that gameplay would be shown later this year
Prison Architect 2 update… please?
@Dodoo vice city is already playable, 4 is not (unless im not getting the joke here😶🌫️)
@Cry_Zero ah no joke just me being dopey.
I’ll see myself out 🤣
We will see people on stage, some garbage games, bad marketing, bad trailers, some following trends badly then executing good ideas with those trends, no original ideas or random ones.
If 3rd parties offer decent things sure, if they don't well just as skip worthy as any year. Or we are all just different audiences, or their ideas in their heads aren't as appealing as they seem.
Just a lot of heavily inspired/copy paste slop as people can't put enough of their creative sides of themselves in a game, they just copy others/always be in their shadow because they can't get past that, so look at all the other stuff that's successful around them and make garbage, or have narrow game experiences so we see a lot more garbage.
Or fair updates or boring updates and then wonder why I bothered or just ignore it all. XD
More soulslikes, more horror, more ARPGs, more zombies, some of those may be decent, but many will have lacking personality, gameplay and anything else. While others will shine and be 1 of the few that's actually got strong personality, gameplay and theming or world building/artstyles/worlds and good enough at original angle or references executed well enough then none of that at all. We will see.
It's Summer Gamefest 2.0, where we get more bad jokes, Geoff looking at the camera, dressing societal-ly expected of 'nice' and whatever else of bad games, bad marketing, barely knowing audiences and a lot of garbage.
@darylb24 Yep, more soulslikes, bad horror games, more ARPGs, more multiplayer shooter slop and anything else the past few years.
Maybe the odd zombie games coming around again like prior years.
With odd genuine stuff and a lot of forgettable/generic stuff. Ok Indies to bad ones and so on.
All 3rd parties that think they have a shot and only a handful to none of them do because they all suck in quality marketing, decent to anything of worth gameplay that isn't the same basics of 8th gen/9th gen so far and personality/presentation that sometimes gets through and many times doesn't.
Oh and bad jokes, always got to have people on stages, bad jokes and too many games and many we forget that may have been good/decent unless we right them down or even bother to write them down as we really didn't care about them to begin with. XD
@Brundleflies21 don't forget bloodborne kart
“Some bland sci-fi shooter” try again. Will definitely be another SoulsLike with some plants gushing over it. If anything we need more sci fi shooters.
@twitchtvpat Planet Coaster 2 Bloodborne DLC.
